Dechert Announces Election of Six New Partners

Dechert LLP announced today that six attorneys will be elevated to partnership effective January 1, 2009. The newly elected partners are Gus Black, Julien Bourgeois, George K. Foster, Jeffrey B. Plies, John J. Sullivan, and Philip N. Yannella.
"We are very pleased that these six outstanding attorneys have accepted the firm's invitation to join the partnership," Dechert Chairman Barton J. Winokur said. "We look forward to their continued success."
Gus Black, 33, a member of Dechert's financial services group, focuses his practice on investment funds (including hedge funds, private equity, and real estate), asset management, corporate and commercial transactions in the financial services sector, and general UK financial services regulation. Black, who is resident in the firm's London office, is a graduate of Cambridge University (1997) and Guildford College of Law (1998).
Julien Bourgeois, 32, who works in the firm's Washington office, is a member of the financial services group. He focuses his practice on advising U.S. and offshore public and private investment funds and investment managers in domestic and international regulatory, corporate, and business matters. Bourgeois is a graduate of the University of Paris X - Nanterre Law School (Bi-Deug 1996, License 1997, Maitrise 1998) and the University of Richmond School of Law (J.D., 2000).
George K. Foster, 36, practices in the firm's international arbitration and litigation groups. He has represented clients in arbitrations around the world, including matters involving sovereign states. Resident in Dechert's New York office, Foster is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (B.A., 1994) and the UCLA School of Law (J.D., 1998, Order of the Coif).
Jeffrey B. Plies, 39, a member of the intellectual property group, focuses his practice on patent litigation. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has a strong technical background in a variety of complex fields. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S., 1991 and M.S., 1993) and the University of Texas School of Law (J.D., 2000, Order of the Coif), he is resident in the firm's Austin office.
John J. Sullivan, 45, is a member of the mass torts and product liability group whose experience includes defending pharmaceutical, medical device, and chemical companies. Based in the firm's Princeton office, he is a graduate of Rutgers University (B.A., 1992) and Rutgers School of Law-Newark (J.D., 1996, Order of the Coif).
Philip N. Yannella, 39, is a member of the mass torts and product liability group and is resident in the Philadelphia office. He has defended clients in product liability and mass tort cases involving an array of consumer and prescription products. A graduate of Temple University (B.A. 1991, summa cum laude) and Temple University's James E. Beasley School of Law (J.D., 1997, cum laude), Yannella is based in the firm's Philadelphia office.
