Global specialist law firm Dechert LLP announced today that Kareena Teh will join the firm as a litigation partner in the Hong Kong office on January 27, 2014.

“Kareena will be a great asset to our Hong Kong office and to our global litigation team,” said Dechert chairman Andrew J. Levander. “Her tremendous skill and dynamic practice span many of the complex litigation issues that our clients face in Asia and around the world.”

Teh is the only female solicitor in Hong Kong thus far to be granted higher rights of audience, a newly established designation that permits certain highly qualified litigators to represent clients in court at all levels of Hong Kong’s judicial system.

Teh focuses her practice on assisting PRC, Hong Kong and multinational clients with governance and compliance matters as well as general corporate and commercial litigation. She has extensive experience in handling directors’ and officers’ liability claims, shareholders’ remedies, insolvency matters, asset tracing claims, recovery actions and insurance litigation. She also handles cross-border fraud, corruption and money laundering investigations.

Her recent representations include advising a renowned electronics multinational in Hong Kong and PRC proceedings regarding the ownership of strategic assets in the PRC, representing a leading automotive multinational in defending claims spanning a number of European jurisdictions and Hong Kong, obtaining injunctive relief and asset preservation orders in cross-border disputes, advising privately held companies in disputes over ownership and control of major assets (valued at several hundred million U.S. dollars), resisting Mareva injunctions and the appointment of receivers and managers, and advising corporate rescuers and officers in recovery actions, including in Hong Kong’s largest insolvency, reputed as having a deficit of US$1.2 billion.

A graduate of University of Canterbury (LL.B. Hons 1989) and the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (1989), she is admitted to practice law in Hong Kong, England & Wales and New Zealand.
