Global specialist law firm Dechert LLP announced today that Jeffrey A. Brown has joined the firm as a litigation partner. Brown was most recently Co-Chief, General Crimes Unit for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

“We are pleased to welcome Jeff to the firm; he is a strong addition to our litigation team,” said Andrew J. Levander, chairman of Dechert’s policy committee. “His investigative and trial skills will greatly benefit our clients.”

Brown, who was awarded the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award in 2011, joined the United States Attorney’s office in 2005 after several years as an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell. His significant prosecutions include Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square bomber, and Abduwali Muse, the Somali pirate who led the attempted hijacking of the Maersk Alabama.

“I am excited for the next stage in my legal career,” said Brown, who joins former Southern District prosecutors Levander, Mike Gilbert, Hector Gonzalez, Robert Jossen, Cheryl Krause (who was recently nominated to the Third Circuit), and Jonathan R. Streeter as well as many other former prosecutors at Dechert. “Dechert’s reputation in the market place is outstanding and I look forward to being a member of the litigation team.”

A graduate of the University of Vermont (B.A., 1994) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1999), he served as a law clerk for the Hon. Barbara S. Jones of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
