Pierre Mayer Withdraws from Dechert Partnership to Dedicate Himself to His Work as Arbitrator

International arbitration practitioner and renowned Professor Pierre Mayer is withdrawing from the Dechert partnership as of April 1, 2015, after leading, together with Professor Eduardo Silva Romero and Xavier Nyssen, Dechert's International Arbitration Practice for almost 10 years.

From that date onwards, Professor Mayer will almost exclusively practice as an arbitrator from his own, independent structure. He will, however, continue to work occasionally, together with the Dechert arbitration team on some chosen arbitration cases as co-counsel.

"The conflicts of interest present in a multinational law firm such as Dechert, and my desire to increasingly concentrate on working as an arbitrator at this stage of my career, prompted my decision to withdraw from the Dechert partnership," said Mayer. "I have spent a great deal of time working with the Dechert arbitration team on many challenging and fascinating cases as we have grown the international arbitration practice of the firm. I am very grateful for that. As I leave, I know I will miss my many close friends at Dechert. I am, however, very happy to know that I will be working with them on a case-by-case basis in the future."

Silva Romero, current head of Dechert's International Arbitration Practice, said: "Our team is very saddened by the departure of our mentor and close friend Pierre. Pierre's out-of-the-box ideas, thoughts, teachings and sense of humor will remain cast in the spirit of Dechert's arbitration team. Hopefully, friends do not really depart but they simply move on. We are privileged and happy to still have the opportunity to work with Pierre as co-counsel on some chosen arbitration cases in the future."
