David Gubbay has a wide-ranging UK and international practice covering all aspects of direct and indirect tax in the areas of corporate and securities, finance and real estate and financial services and fund work.
His practice includes advising on domestic and cross border acquisitions and disposals of public and private companies, corporate reorganisations and reconstructions, private equity structures, real estate transactions and financings, securitisations, and a variety of other banking, financial and corporate transactions. Part of his practice also involves employee share and incentive planning, and advising individuals on corporate disposals.
A large part of his practice involves advising on the taxation issues related to offshore and onshore investment funds, including hedge funds, UCITS, real estate funds and private equity funds. He also advises investment management businesses on structure and on efficient remuneration planning.
Mr. Gubbay is recommended for VAT and Indirect Tax in independent directory The Legal 500 UK 2012, and in Chambers UK 2013, which describes him as “commercial and willing to take a decision for a client.” In Chambers UK 2012 he is “praised by peers for his commerciality” in a practice which incorporates M&A, private equity, real estate and fund work. In Chambers UK 2011 he is praised for being “astute on tricky technical questions”.
Mr. Gubbay speaks regularly on tax issues at external conferences and has written numerous tax articles. He also co-authored the book A Practical Guide to the Stamp Duty Land Tax (published March 2004 by Legalease).
