Pierre Mayer is one of the world's leading authorities in international dispute resolution. Known for his skilful handling of the most complex issues, Mr. Mayer has specialized in arbitration for more than 25 years, both as counsel and as arbitrator in international trade, joint ventures and industrial cooperation, technology transfer, oil and gas and distribution, under the rules of ICSID, ICC and UNCITRAL.
Mr. Mayer is listed in The Legal 500 (Paris), Chambers and Décideurs Stratégie Finance Droit as one of the world's most respected legal scholars, particularly for his expertise in private international law, a subject he has taught since 1984 at the Sorbonne University in Paris, a leading university on the subject.
Mr. Mayer is a member of the Paris Bar and speaks French and English.

-- counsel for an Asian state entity in connection with a US$2 billion dispute arising from a military procurement contract and the payment of illicit commissions
-- counsel for a French company versus Finnish, Hungarian and Chinese companies in an arbitration arising from the development of a high-tech cellular phone
-- counsel for a South American State in several ICSID investment disputes with major foreign oil companies
As arbitrator:
-- chairman in an UNCITRAL case between two major pharmaceutical companies regarding the joined development of a drug
-- chairman of an ICC dispute between the investor of an anti-cancer drug and the pharmaceutical company in charge of developing the drug
-- co-arbitrator in an ICSID case between a Belgian dredging company and an African state
-- co-arbitrator in an ICC case between African and Middle-Eastern telecom companies in a US$1 billion dispute
-- co-arbitrator in a US$2 billion dispute arising between an Algerian state-owned energy company and a British oil company with regards to a joint venture for the purpose of increasing the efficiency of an oil field

Mr. Mayer received a doctorate in Private Law from the University of Paris II

Mr. Mayer is the author of numerous articles and several books, including a treatise on Private International Law, "Droit international privé", Montchrestien (first edition 1977, ninth edition in collaboration with Professor Vincent Heuzé, 2007), and the 2003 General course at the Hague Academy of International Law.
