Experience and Background
Gretchen S. Sween has a diverse litigation practice representing companies in a range of industries, from computers to consumer products. She focuses on trial and appellate matters, concentrating in particular on patent litigation, consumer class actions, false advertising and unfair competition cases, and general business litigation.
While in law school, Ms. Sween received a number of academic and advocacy awards, including:
- "Best Published Note," Texas Law Review
- Niemann Cup winner for "excellence in advocacy"
- Order of the Barristers
- National championship finalist, regional champion and "best brief," ABA National Appellate Advocacy competition
- National finalist, regional "best oralist," and second best brief, National Moot Court team
- Board of Advocates "outstanding member" award
- Susman Godfrey Intramural Moot Court Champion
- Regional "best speaker" award, National Moot Court team
- Thad T. Hutcheson Moot Court champion
- The Review of Litigation's first year "best brief" award
- Dean's highest achievement award for Constitutional Law II and Legal Scholarship
Ms. Sween, who holds a Ph.D. in the Humanities, worked as a freelance writer, theater director, and a member of the adjunct faculty of several colleges before launching her legal career.
She served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Sim Lake of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas following law school.
