Dechert Shortlisted for Three Business Leadership Awards by The Lawyer
Dechert LLP has been shortlisted for three business leadership awards by The Lawyer, a leading publication in the UK legal market.
The awards, set up to honor law firms that bring fresh thinking to business issues in the law, recognize outstanding initiatives in areas such as the delivery of law services, use of technology and staff retention.
A panel of industry experts, consisting of in-house lawyers, business services heads in private practice and law firm leaders, selected Dechert as a finalist in three categories: Most Innovative Workplace Initiative, Best Pro Bono/CSR Initiative and Best Diversity Initiative.
In the Most Innovative Workplace Initiative, it was Dechert’s business continuity planning that captured the judges’ attention. The firm’s set of business continuity plans, intended for implementation in the event of terrorist attacks, fires, floods, blizzards and other emergencies, aims to safeguard staff, protect information and keep the firm’s offices open. Preparedness for a wide range of crisis scenarios has involved road-testing procedures and sharing best practices with peer firms.
Dechert’s work for The Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust (RAFT), a charity set up by plastic surgeons to help rebuild the lives of those affected by accident, disease or birth defect, was shortlisted for the Best Pro Bono/CSR Initiative award. In February 2016, Dechert established an intellectual property package that helped RAFT develop a collaboration with University College London researchers targeted at the technology underpinning a new generation of bionic limbs.
Last, the firm’s Allies Program was shortlisted for the Best Diversity Initiative award. At Dechert, LGBT Allies are partners, administrators and associates who volunteer to serve as sounding boards for colleagues with concerns about lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender issues in the workplace. The program, launched in June 2015, has already seen more than 130 employees sign up as Allies.
This year’s awards will be presented at the Business Leadership Summit at The Brewery in London on September 28.
