Dechert News Release

Dechert LLP announced today that Matthew L. Larrabee has joined the firm as a partner in its San Francisco office. Larrabee was most recently chairman of Heller Ehrman LLP.

“Matt’s experience is unusually diverse, with each of his practice areas intersecting with a number of Dechert’s core litigation practices: class action defense, antitrust, fraud claims, and complex commercial litigation,” said Dechert chairman Barton J. Winokur. “Perhaps most importantly, Matt will provide yet another highly experienced and sophisticated first chair litigator to Dechert’s already impressive group of trial lawyers. I think everyone would agree that Matt is one of the most respected trial attorneys in the nation and we welcome him to the firm.”

With a litigation career spanning more than 25 years, Larrabee has served as lead counsel for a variety of companies and financial institutions from the financial services, software, pharmaceutical and health care sectors in multifaceted disputes. His practice has included consumer class actions, private antitrust litigation, false claims act disputes, and other complex commercial litigation. Larrabee, 53, has extensive lead counsel trial experience in complex jury and bench trials, significant appellate experience, and expertise in creative alternative dispute resolution.

“Dechert’s litigation practice is recognized as one of the best in the country,” Larrabee said. “I have had the privilege of knowing and working with many of Dechert’s trial lawyers and I feel fortunate to be joining such an outstanding team.”

Some of his significant representations include serving as lead defense counsel for one of the leading corporate trust operations in the country in a $4 billion False Claims Act lawsuit brought by the State of California; representing a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in a class action claim involving RICO, Unfair Competition and other fraud-based theories; leading defense teams for three banks that were facing class actions for alleged breach of fiduciary duty from institutional trustee fee overcharges; and defending a major bank against claims exceeding $600 million arising from a federal guaranteed student loan servicing failure.

Larrabee’s antitrust litigation experience includes serving as co-lead counsel for a major software manufacturer in antitrust litigation brought by one of its largest competitors and serving as lead counsel in multiple private antitrust lawsuits and administrative proceedings brought against a medical insurance company.

A graduate of the University Of California, Davis (1977) with honors, Larrabee received his law degree from the University of California Hastings College of the Law (1980), where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Journal. He is admitted to the California bar.

Dechert LLP has more than 1,000 lawyers in 18 offices in the United States, Europe and Asia. The firm’s litigation experience, at both the trial and appellate level, covers the gamut of complex litigation; complex commercial; antitrust; mass torts and product liability; financial services and securities; intellectual property; labor, employment and ERISA; and criminal, government investigations, and civil fraud.
