The American Lawyer Honors Dechert Representation in Global Legal Awards

July 20, 2017

The American Lawyer has named Dechert LLP’s representation of Japanese auto-parts manufacturer Takata Corporation and affiliates in connection with the largest automotive recall in history as Investigation of the Year for Asia as part of its Global Legal Awards 2017.

The awards, which were set up to honor the world’s most important cross-border commercial legal matters, are judged on legal novelty, significance, geographical spread, size of the financial stakes and favorability of the outcome to the client. The American Lawyer divided entries into four main categories: disputes, mergers and acquisitions, finance, and citizenship. The Takata air bag litigation was selected as winner of the “Disputes: Investigations (Asia)” category.

The Dechert team that guided Takata through an array of regulatory, state, federal, congressional and international challenges was led by the firm’s chairman, white collar and securities partner Andrew J. Levander. Other lead counsel included white collar and securities partners Hector Gonzalez and Mauricio A. España, antitrust and competition partner Steven G. Bradbury, and complex commercial litigation partners Ben Barnett and Erik Snapp. The team included associates from several practice groups within the firm’s U.S. and European offices.

Award winners will be honored at a ceremony at the Edison Ballroom in New York on September 25, when one winning deal from each of the four sections will be chosen as overall Grand Prize winner for that section.
