John M. Ix counsels clients on environmental regulatory compliance issues, supports litigated environmental disputes, and negotiates environmental terms in business transactions. He formerly served as co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Environmental Law Committee.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Ix worked as a geologist for an environmental consulting firm. That experience, coupled with his undergraduate and graduate science degrees, provides him with a distinctive understanding of the technical issues underlying environmental compliance, litigation, and transactional matters.
Mr. Ix has counseled clients on compliance with federal and state environmental laws, specifically assisting them in developing cost-effective solutions to site remediation and permitting issues. Mr. Ix has also represented clients in litigated and mediated environmental matters, including environmental disputes between successive property owners, neighboring property owners, landlords, and tenants. He also has assisted clients with environmental issues arising out of real property transfers and other business transactions, including negotiating environmental provisions of asset and stock purchase agreements, securitization agreements, and access agreements, and evaluating the sufficiency of environmental risk mitigants such as environmental insurance.
