Managing sanctions risk has become significantly more complex in recent years. Of note is the increasing propensity for sanctions to cover not just names, but also industry sectors and activities, as the fundraising and procurement methods of targets – notably North Korea – require the services of a range of actors, not just banks. Insurers, shipping companies, corporate service providers, commodity brokers and the wider supply chain are now all within scope.

This event, held under the Chatham House rule, co-hosted by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and Dechert LLP, will bring together policymakers and private sector sanctions practitioners from the banking, insurance, shipping, commodities and manufacturing communities to share perspectives on their individual roles in implementing sanctions against North Korea.

The focus on this event will be on North Korea, and will seek to draw out an understanding of the roles and capabilities of the private sector actors in order to facilitate the creation of a more coordinated, cross-sector response.
