Dechert ERISA Partner Andrew Oringer will participate in this webcast alongside Eugene Scalia, Labor and Employment partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s 2016 “fiduciary rule” was an unprecedented, sweeping attempt to change the way financial institutions do business, with far-reaching effects for broker-dealers, insurance companies, and others.

As a result of a lawsuit by concerned industry associations, that rule is now dead.  Eugene Scalia played a leading role in the litigation, including presenting oral argument before the court of appeals that vacated the rule.

We will discuss the adoption of the rule and the controversy surrounding it, the case itself, and what might lie ahead.  Mr. Oringer will begin by providing background on the rule, and then will conduct an interview with Mr. Scalia in which they will discuss the litigation, the winning arguments, and the import of the decision.
