Blockchain, Digital Assets and Investment Management: Lessons from the United States
A Seminar Presented by Dechert’s Financial Services Team
Overview
Facebook’s well-reported announcement of their impending entry into cryptocurrencies and digital assets re-affirms again that the blockchain technology that underpins bitcoin and ethereum and other decentralized and distributed networks will continue to disrupt not just payments, but also finance and investing. Fortunately, the SEC and the CFTC has been making steady progress towards regulatory clarity in the United States, providing more certainty to fund managers and investment advisers who want to include digital assets in their portfolios.
Timothy Spangler, partner in Dechert’s Orange County and Silicon Valley offices who focuses on the intersection of blockchain and financial regulation, will discuss the key issues to bear in mind when looking at new investment strategies and financial products that make use of distributed ledger technology. Particular attention will be spent on exploring the growing range of traditional securities that are migrating “on chain” and how that will impact investment management more broadly in the near term.
