Joint DOL and SEC Hearing on Target-Date Funds

In response to controversy about the asset allocation strategies of target-date funds (“Target Funds”) during the 2008 bear market, the Department of Labor and SEC recently held a joint hearing regarding Target Funds as investment options for individuals and company-sponsored retirement plans. This update summarizes the discussion at the hearing, which included testimony from more than 30 industry representatives, and the potential impact of further regulation of Target Funds.
