New Regulations Issued Under Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008

The Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and Department of Health and Human Services recently issued interim final regulations for group health plans implementing the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (“MHPAEA”), which require parity between medical or surgical benefits and mental health or substance use disorder benefits with respect to financial requirements, treatment limitations, and aggregate lifetime and annual dollar limits. This update provides a brief overview of the new interim final regulations.
