A New Regime for Venture Capital

There has long been dissatisfaction within the European venture capital community that the regulatory environment within the European Union is not best configured to foster specialised equity investment for innovative start-up companies, giving rise to a number of industry and governmental papers and consultations. The European Commission’s response to the clamour for reform has come in the consultation document entitled A New Regime for European Venture Capital. In this update we explore its centrepiece policy option, which is mutual recognition and passporting of venture capital funds throughout the EU.
