European Social Entrepreneurship Funds: The Commission’s Proposals

The European Commission has published a proposal for a Regulation introducing a new EU-wide fund structure, the European Social Entrepreneurship Fund, which reflects the Commission’s recognition of “social business” as an important emerging sector within the broader investment context. The initiative defines social business as one of the key levers for an effective relaunch of the single market in Europe and emphasises the importance of setting up a European framework to facilitate the development of social investment funds. In this update, we review the background of the new Regulation and the Commission’s proposals.
