Shale Gas: What Is New in China?

The National Development and Reform Commission, China’s Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Land and Resources, and the National Agency of Energy recently published the first five-year plan for development of shale gas in China, which boasts one of the largest shale gas reserves in the world. This update reviews the plan, which includes ambitious production targets and emphasizes the need for foreign cooperation, particularly in technology, to allow the growth of this economic sector and opportunities for foreign oil and gas players.
