The 2010 Dechert Guide to Foreign Investment in China

This guide provides an overview of the regulations governing foreign investment in mainland China. In 2008 and 2009 alone, inbound foreign direct investment totaled more than US$200 billion in China. In the years between 2005 and 2008, foreign investment in China totaled almost US$337 billion. As of 2009, China surpassed Germany to become the world’s third-largest economy, after only the United States and Japan. Notwithstanding China’s status as one of the world’s largest economies, and the massive amounts of foreign money invested in China, the basic laws and rules in China governing foreign investment remain mysterious for those accustomed to Western legal systems.
