Stephen D. Brown

Stephen D. Brown focuses his practice on internal investigations and complex criminal and civil cases relating to fraud, RICO, antitrust, and prisoner civil rights. He has extensive experience in handling criminal and civil trials as well as federal grand jury matters. He has written, taught, and lectured extensively on corporate crisis management, civil RICO, prisoner civil rights, and deposition skills.

Mr. Brown is the former chair of the white collar litigation practice and Associate Development Partner. Since 2004, Mr. Brown has been recognized as a leading lawyer for antitrust and white collar crime litigation and investigations in Chambers USA, a referral guide to leading lawyers in the United States based on the opinions of their peers and clients. In its 2011 edition, Chambers noted that Mr. Brown is “a fabulous attorney and a pleasure to work with” and approaches problems “with a great combination of judgment and skill.” Since 2006, Mr. Brown has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for his work in antitrust law and white collar criminal defense. Recently, he was named Best Lawyers 2015 Antitrust "Lawyer of the Year" in Philadelphia and Chambers USA 2015 notes him as a "terrific defense lawyer who is very meticulous and willing to fight for his clients." In addition, Mr. Brown has been recognized by Corporate Counsel as among the “Best Lawyers in Criminal Defense.” He also served as co-editor of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section’s Criminal Antitrust Litigation Handbook (2nd edition). The Philadelphia Bar Association has presented Mr. Brown with the Wachovia Fidelity Award for his extraordinary leadership and innovation as Co-Coordinator of the Prisoner Civil Rights Panel for the United States District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In 2021, Mr. Brown was the recipient of the Gerald Abraham Award for Service to Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law.
