Jago Chanter focuses his practice on international arbitration.

Mr. Chanter has experience in the construction, telecommunications, defense, energy, and gaming sectors, and has advised on proceedings under the ICC, LCIA, ICSID, and UNCITRAL rules, as well as pre-arbitral DAB disputes under FIDIC contracts.

Mr. Chanter has acted as counsel for a wide range of clients, including state entities, financial institutions, construction companies, private equity firms, tech start-ups, and major corporations. Mr. Chanter also has experience acting as secretary to arbitral tribunals. 

Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Chanter worked at two leading London law firms, where he concentrated on international litigation and competition law, and completed two secondments to international banks.

  • A Central European State in an UNCITRAL investment dispute with a company relating to regulation in the gaming sector.
  • A South American State in an ICSID investment dispute with a major foreign oil company.
  • An Asian state entity in connection with a US$2 billion dispute arising from a military procurement contract and the payment of illicit commissions.
  • A major Russian bank in English High Court litigation concerning a US$150 million securities fraud. This involved worldwide freezing orders and ancillary criminal proceedings.
  • An Eastern European State in a dispute with construction companies related to the construction of a railway.
  • A leading satellite operator in a dispute arising from a coordination agreement.
  • Internal investigations at a major UK bank.
  • A national asset manager in the personal bankruptcy proceedings of a debtor.
  • Various 'follow-on’ competition law disputes in relation to copper tubes, water and interchange fees.
