Robert A. Cohen is the past Co-Chair of the firm’s international dispute resolution practice. He has served several times on the firm’s Policy Committee. His more than 40 years of experience have included the litigation (including jury trials), arbitration and mediation of complex commercial disputes, often with an international dimension.

Mr. Cohen has been regularly recognized by Benchmark Litigation as a “Litigation Star,” most recently in the areas of antitrust, intellectual property and general commercial litigation. He was a leading member of the Dechert litigation team recognized as part of the Financial Times’ 2014 Top 40 North American Innovative Law Firms for their representation of Argentina’s two largest creditors – with combined claims for over US$3.5 billion – in multi-national litigation and judgment enforcement proceedings. The matter concluded in a victory before the Supreme Court of the United States.

In recent years, a principal focus of Mr. Cohen’s practice has been litigation and judgment enforcement proceedings against foreign governments and government instrumentalities. Chief among his representations in this area is his litigation on behalf of Elliott Associates, a large New York-based hedge fund. Mr. Cohen has managed successful and ongoing worldwide efforts to obtain and enforce judgments of hundreds of millions of dollars of defaulted sovereign debt.
