Thomas Deakin has a broad practice covering both complex commercial litigation and white collar crime, including the investigation and defense of matters involving corruption, fraud and money laundering.

Mr. Deakin advises both organizations and individuals on internal investigations, multi-jurisdictional regulatory investigations and prosecutions undertaken by authorities and regulators, such as the Serious Fraud Office, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Competition and Markets Authority and HM Revenue and Customs. Mr. Deakin has also acted on a range of litigation matters for clients in a wide variety of different jurisdictions and has experience advising on UK competition matters.

Mr. Deakin has worked on a number of pro bono matters, including assisting a charity in its work to overturn miscarriages of justice within the criminal justice system. Mr. Deakin trained with Dechert and qualified in 2022. 

    • Reforming the Windrush Compensation Scheme – 2022 Samuel E. Klein Pro Bono Award Recipient. Worked with other Dechert fee earners in supporting the JUSTICE Working Group in publishing its Reforming the Windrush Compensation Scheme Report, which sets out recommendations to improve the administrative and procedural aspects of the scheme to ensure it is accessible, fair and efficient.
    • Overturning miscarriages of justice – assisted a charitable law practice with investigating and overturning miscarriages of justice arising from the courts of England and Wales.
