Lucía Elizalde focuses her practice on international arbitration and litigation, with an emphasis on cases related to business law, corporate law and M&A in several Latin American countries.

Ms. Elizalde previously served as General Secretary and General Counsel in a multilateral financial organization that manages more than US$ 6.7 billion of sovereign funds (Fondo Latinoamericano de Reservas – FLAR). Additionally, she was senior associate at leading law firms in Colombia and Uruguay and was appointed negotiator and mediator by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Uruguay.

She is an associate lecturer on arbitration and litigation at law schools in Colombia and Uruguay, has written a number of academic papers that have been published in established law journals and has participated as speaker in specialized conferences.

  • A syndicate of international banks on a US$ 350 million loan granted to an Argentinean business group to acquire the Uruguayan holding companies of a multinational fast-food chain, as part of a US$ 700 million deal across 18 jurisdictions in Latin America
  • An international bank on a US$ 67 million loan granted to an Argentinean forest company to acquire 80% stake in a Uruguayan company that produces paper
  • A syndicate of international banks on the restructuring of a credit facility granted to a Spanish cellulose production group, for an initial amount of US$ 1.500 million
  • An international organization on the granting of a loan facility of up to US$ 4 million to one of the five largest rice producers in Latin America
  • An oil and gas company on the US$ 3.8 billion acquisition of the Bolivian branch of an international oil and gas exploration and production company
  • The Uruguayan Government on the negotiations with employers’ chambers and workers’ unions to reach agreements on minimum wages and minimum working conditions.
