Marcelo Fernandez

Marcelo Fernandez* focuses his practice on international arbitration. As a former Director of International Arbitration and General Defense for the General Attorney’s Office of Bolivia, Mr. Fernandez has experience leading major international investment and commercial arbitration cases. He is uniquely positioned to advise clients in cases involving South American entities, especially in matters related to the transportation, electricity and oil and gas industries.  

In addition to serving in the General Attorney’s Office of Bolivia, Mr. Fernandez has also taught postgraduate courses on legal defense, conflict resolution, international responsibility and international arbitration at the Diplomatic Academy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, School of Higer National Studies of the Military Forces, Universidad Privada Boliviana, Universidad Privada Franz Tamayo and Universidad Privada NUR.

  • The Plurinational State of Bolivia in an investment dispute under UNCITRAL Rules in the oil&gas sector.
  • The Plurinational State of Bolivia in an investment dispute under UNCITRAL Rules in the pension sector.
  • A commercial arbitration under the ICC Rules regarding a dispute of a mining concession contract.
