David Gervais focuses his practice principally on real estate investment acquisitions and disposals. He also advises on all aspects of leasing transactions, acting both for landlords and tenants and with regard to real estate developments, portfolio management and the property aspects of corporate and finance transactions.

Mr. Gervais has experience in acting for a wide variety of clients including UK and international investors, real estate developers, hotel operators, corporate occupiers, landlords, high net-worth individuals, banks, borrowers and pension funds.

In the 2018, 2017 and 2016 editions of The Legal 500 UK, Mr. Gervais is noted for his work in real estate: commercial property and is described as "swiftly responsive."

Mr. Gervais qualified in 1998 and joined Dechert’s Real Estate group in March 2004 having previously worked at other leading UK firms.

  • Citrus Group in connection with its joint venture acquisition with Apollo of 14 residential care homes and the simultaneous lease-back to an operating company.
  • Club Quarters in connection with its acquisition and redevelopment of premises at Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London to form a new hotel/serviced apartment scheme.
  • Highcross in connection with its acquisition of an investment portfolio of business park office developments across south west England and ongoing portfolio management. 
  • Major international fashion brand in connection with its UK expansion including the opening of six new stores and the relocation of their UK head office.
  • Middle Eastern investor in connection with the acquisition, financing and redevelopment of a large residential property (value circa £40 million) in Belgrave Square, London.
  • Middle Eastern private equity fund in connection with the £1 billion acquisition, restructuring (pre-pack administration) and financing of Citibank Tower, Canary Wharf.
  • Middle Eastern private equity fund in connection with the sale of Milton Gate, 1 Moor Lane, London for £198 million.
  • Middle Eastern private equity fund in connection with the development of the Astir Peninsula in Greece to include two hotels and 15 high end residential villas.
  • SAL Pension Fund Limited in connection with all aspects of its real estate portfolio, including sales and acquisitions such as the sale of Sun Alliance House, Basingstoke and the acquisition of Queens House, Manchester, and the forward funding of a new 90-bed Premier Inn hotel at Dalston Lane, London.
  • Sankaty Advisers in connection with the real estate aspects, including a full property due diligence and issues arising, of the c£600 million acquisition of loans secured over a portfolio of 11 hotels in the UK.
  • A Canadian investor in connection with its bid for 30 St Mary Axe (the Gherkin), London, including providing real estate, construction and planning due diligence.
  • Wells Fargo in connection with its acquisition of Hypothekenbank’s offices at 90 Long Acre, London, to form its new UK commercial real estate headquarters as part of its acquisition of a £4 billion portfolio of UK commercial real estate loans.
