Joe Gribbin focuses his practice on patent litigation. Mr. Gribbin’s intellectual-property experience involves multiple technologies and sciences, including pharmaceuticals, gene sequencing, electronics, and software. His experience also includes international trade-secret disputes and advising on patent licensing. In addition to his intellectual-property work, Mr. Gribbin also maintains an active pro bono practice, focusing on trademark and copyright disputes on behalf of local Philadelphia theatre and music artists.

Mr. Gribbin played a critical role in the representation of Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc. in a five-week-long bench patent trial held in March and April of 2015 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. After the trial, the Court held that seven defendants’ generic products, as described in their ANDAs, infringed nearly all of the asserted claims, and that Defendants failed to prove that those infringed claims were invalid. The Court issued an injunction barring all generics, including Actavis, Teva, Amneal, Roxane, Impax, and Sun Pharmaceuticals, from selling copies of Endo’s highly successful long-acting opioid, OPANA® ER.

Mr. Gribbin authored the chapter on eDiscovery cost-shifting in Pennsylvania Federal and State Courts in the book Pennsylvania eDiscovery, published by The Legal Intelligencer.

Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Gribbin worked as an associate in the intellectual-property practice of a national law firm. His prior experience also includes four years of working as a refinery chemical engineer, providing technical support for various oil refining processes.
