Michelle Gordon focuses her practice on financial restructuring and insolvency matters, specifically in complex cases including formal insolvencies, investigations and banking litigation. Ms. Gordon has acted on a range of matters across sectors, having a particular focus on financial services.

Prior to joining Dechert, Ms. Gordon worked with two other international law firms in their restructuring departments.

  • PwC as administrators of Lehman Brothers Limited on a range of complex insolvency matters, most notably regard the settlement of £10 billion of intra-group claims facilitating the return of 100p in the pound to LBL’s creditors ([2017] EWHC 2032 (Ch)).
  • Deloitte as administrators of Fintyre Group Limited a major independent European wholesale and retail tyre distributer.
  • The management on a buyout of a waste management business from administrators of Pyrocore Limited, including negotiations with secured creditor to satisfy outstanding secured debt as part of purchase and various insolvency issues. 
  • The majority shareholder and director of Global Gaming Ventures (Holdings) Limited on the receivership of one of the UK’s largest casinos ([2018] EWCA 68 (Civ)).
  • A distressed manufacture and distribution group with businesses in the United Kingdom, France and Germany, including contingency planning, communication with stakeholders and proposed pre-pack sale.
  • Credit Suisse International regarding a priority dispute between the swap provider and various note-holders under securitisation documentation relating to a nursing home group.
  • An asset manager on a dispute in connection with a managed account, solvency and breach of contract issues, including statutory demand in the BVI and related High Court proceedings.  
  • An Australian Bank on the restructure of securities for an agricultural entity controlling Australian vineyards and subsequent enforcement.
  • The CEO and founder of the Abraaj Group on a broad range of complex and urgent issues arising out of the appointment of provisional liquidators in the Cayman Islands to the Abraaj group.
