Tharuni Jayaraman is an associate in the firm’s litigation group. She focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, internal investigations, and white collar defense.  Her representative matters include cases in federal and state court.

Ms. Jayaraman also maintains an active pro bono practice. She has successfully represented plaintiffs at trial in the Southern District of New York challenging the State of New York’s voter list maintenance procedures and has successfully represented plaintiffs at trial in the District of Kansas challenging the State of Kansas's voter registration requirements. She has also represented plaintiffs in expedited proceedings, including before the Tennessee Supreme Court, that resulted in expanded access to mail-in voting in Tennessee in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. She currently represents plaintiffs in the Western District of Wisconsin challenging the State of Wisconsin’s photo identification laws.

Ms. Jayaraman was a 2019 recipient of Dechert’s Samuel E. Klein Pro Bono Award.

Ms. Jayaraman was a Dechert summer associate in 2015. Prior to joining Dechert, she served as a legal intern for the Voting Rights Project of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and as a legal intern in the Civil Division of the Office of the Attorney General of Kentucky. Ms. Jayaraman was also a law clerk for the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
