
Matthew M. McDonagh is an associate in Dechert’s Trial, Investigations, and Securities practice group. Mr. McDonagh focuses his practice on white-collar defense, securities litigation, internal investigations, and compliance counseling. He regularly advises companies, boards, committees, and individuals in criminal and regulatory investigations by the DOJ, SEC, CFTC, State Attorney Generals, and other governmental agencies.
He has broad experience in matters relating to securities fraud, anti-money laundering, the False Claims Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, insider trading, and antitrust laws. His experience in internal and government investigations and enforcement actions spans a wide range of issues across a broad spectrum of industries, including financial services, healthcare, retail, automotive and private funds. In addition, he also advises multinational companies in assessing and enhancing their regulatory compliance programs.
In his pro-bono practice, Mr. McDonagh represents individuals in federal criminal cases who cannot afford to pay for a lawyer as part of Dechert’s participation in the Criminal Justice Act Panel of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. McDonagh served as an associate at another global law firm.

- A large multinational company in connection with on-the-ground FCPA compliance assessments in Kenya, South Africa, Canada, and the UK.
- A leading automotive manufacturer in connection with SEC investigations that resulted in the SEC closing the investigations without action.
- The Independent Monitor of Toyota Motor Corporation in providing advice as part of a deferred prosecution agreement, focusing on guiding the company in the development and implementation of a centralized compliance program.
