Michael G. Manas, Ph.D. is a patent agent in the patent counseling and prosecution practice of Dechert’s intellectual property group. Dr. Manas assists clients with patent application drafting and prosecution, both in the U.S. and internationally, and with intellectual property due diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses. He has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide array of technologies, including small molecule pharmaceuticals, biomaterials, polymers, chemical processes, chemical formulations and medical devices.

Dr. Manas earned his Ph.D. at Yale University with Prof. Robert Crabtree, where his doctoral research spanned a number of topics centered around the development of more efficient chemical transformation processes (“Green Chemistry”).  His research included the development of cleaner, cheaper and less wasteful methods of hydrogenation, n-alkylation, hydrosilylation, carbon dioxide capture and reduction, and glycerol reformation.

Prior to joining Dechert, Dr. Manas worked as a patent agent at another global law firm.

  • A Delaware-based pharmaceutical company in drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications covering small molecule pharmaceutical compounds, their formulations, dosing regimens and methods of using said compounds in the treatment of a variety of diseases.
  • A Chinese pharmaceutical company in drafting and prosecuting patent applications directed to drug combinations for treating prostate cancer.
  • A Pennsylvania-based pharmaceutical company in drafting and filing patent applications covering small molecule pharmaceutical compounds, and methods of using said compounds in the treatment of liver diseases.
