Andrew Papworth's principal areas of practice are in acquisition finance, real estate finance and general banking work. Mr. Papworth's primary focus is on acting for lenders (including direct lending funds, banks and other financial institutions), corporates and private equity houses on domestic and cross-border acquisition finance and  investment and development real estate finance transactions (including bilateral, club and global syndicated lending for private equity backed acquisitions, management buy-outs, real estate investment and development financing, corporate lending, general banking and portfolio work and workouts/restructurings). He is mentioned for property finance in The Legal 500 UK, 2018.

In conjunction with the expansion of direct lending funds into the UK and European market in recent years, Mr. Papworth has acted for a number of direct lending funds on their provision of unitranche, first loss/second loss and second lien financing facilities and senior and mezzanine real estate investment and development financing whilst continuing to act for banks and other financial institutions on their provision of super senior facilities and participations in other complex debt structures.

Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Papworth served as a senior associate in the debt finance group of DLA Piper. While working at DLA Piper, Mr Papworth spent time on secondment at Barclays Bank PLC and Royal Bank of Scotland plc.

  • Clanwilliam Group in the negotiation of the financing package provided to it by Alcentra Limited.
  • Cordet Capital and Ture Invest AB on their provision of financing to the Trust Payments Group to refinance its existing facilities and support its growth.
  • CVC Credit Partners and HSBC Bank plc as lenders of unitranche and super senior revolving facilities to BP Inv3 Bidco Limited (backed by Buckthorn Partners LLP) in relation to its acquisition of the TWMA Group.
  • GBT on the financing of the public to private acquisition of the Hogg Robinson Group.
  • Hayfin, Highbridge, ICG, Lloyds Bank plc and Sankaty in relation to unitranche and super senior RCF facilities provided to the Chiltern Group in connection with the multi-jurisdictional refinancing of its existing financing arrangements and its acquisition of a multi-jurisdictional, privately owned, executive search and consulting firm.
