Ellen L. Ratigan focuses her practice on white collar, securities and other complex commercial litigation. Ms. Ratigan has defended publicly traded companies and their officers and directors in securities class action, derivative, and merger litigation. She also has experience representing officers, directors, and other individuals in government and internal investigations, including, among others, the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of a Fortune 200 company in connection with potential shareholder derivative claims and former officers of publicly traded companies in connection with SEC investigations.

Ms. Ratigan maintains an active commercial and appellate litigation practice. She has represented an avionics company in a breach of contract dispute with a large international airline, a retailer in products liability case, and a law firm in a false advertising and unfair competition lawsuit, all in federal district court. She has also defended individuals and companies against breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract claims in various state courts. In her appellate practice, she has represented organizations, companies and individuals before the Pennsylvania Supreme, Superior and Commonwealth Courts and the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division.

In her pro bono practice, Ms. Ratigan successfully represented a prisoner plaintiff in a First Amendment retaliation case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, leading to a precedential decision reversing the district court’s grant of summary judgment against the plaintiff. She has argued two civil rights cases before the Third Circuit and represented clients in other civil rights and habeas corpus cases before that Court and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Ratigan has also assisted a client escaping domestic violence in gaining the ability to work legally in the United States and obtaining lawful permanent residency in the United States.

Prior to joining Dechert, Ms. Ratigan clerked for the Honorable D. Michael Fisher on the Third Circuit and the Honorable J. Curtis Joyner on the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
