
Lakshmi Rajan, Ph.D. is a registered patent agent in the patent counseling and prosecution practice of Dechert’s intellectual property group. Dr. Rajan has significant experience assisting clients with the preparation of patent application, domestic and foreign patent prosecution, development and management of patent portfolios, patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate, and general client counseling. She also works collaboratively with IP counsel throughout the world to secure patent protection in foreign jurisdictions for her clients.
Dr. Rajan has over a decade of experience advising clients on their innovations in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural and food industries. She has represented independent inventors, universities, national research laboratories, start-up companies and multinational corporations in patent matters in the areas of antibody technology and therapies, immunotherapy technologies for cancer and inflammatory conditions, T-cell therapy, bioengineered enzymes, therapeutic peptides, genomics, gene editing, gene therapy, stem cell therapy, vaccines, biomarkers, diagnostics, small molecules, food and beverage products, and agricultural biotechnology.
Dr. Rajan’s technical areas of expertise include microbiology, virology, immunology, molecular biology, genomics, genome engineering, cancer genetics, protein biochemistry, developmental biology, and molecular orthopedics. Her academic tenure included doctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin, which focused on the identification, mapping and cloning of several novel murine genetic loci involved in T-cell lymphomas using genomic mapping technologies. In addition, Dr. Rajan's postdoctoral research as a postdoctoral fellow, instructor and co-investigator at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, addressed molecular mechanisms of embryonic development and injury/repair in skeletal tissues using transgenic animal models, RNA in situ hybridization, focused microarrays, and real-time PCR technologies. Dr. Rajan has also co-authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications in a wide variety of areas.
Prior to joining Dechert, Dr. Rajan was a patent agent at another national law firm.
