
Christopher Soares focuses his practice on corporate and securities law and transactional matters as they relate to financial services and structured products.
Additionally, Mr. Soares advises clients on compliance with the Dodd-Frank Act, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as well as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulations.
Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Soares served as a legal intern at the SEC's Division of Enforcement. He also completed legal internships with the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor and the Chief Investment Office of a large insurance and investment management company. Prior to this, he served as a judicial legal intern for the Honorable Marysol Rosero of the New Jersey Superior Court. Mr. Soares is admitted in the District of Columbia only; he is not admitted in North Carolina.

- A large Colorado-domiciled insurance company in obtaining approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on a transaction involving the client’s subsidiary’s purchase of a Massachusetts domiciled mutual life insurance company’s retirement plan business.
- A major European satellite company that provides coverage over Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas, in obtaining approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on a transaction involving the client’s purchase of a large equity interest (involving voting rights) in a global communications company.
- A large Canadian life insurance company in obtaining approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on a transaction involving their complete acquisition of a competing American life insurance company which plans to demutualize by converting into a stock life insurance company.
- A large U.S. aerospace company in obtaining approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on a transaction involving the purchase of a large equity interest (involving voting rights) by an Italian-based multinational aerospace/defense and security company.
- A large U.S. aerospace company in obtaining approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on a transaction involving the purchase of a large equity interest (involving voting rights) of the client by an Italian company focused on equity financing.
