Dr. Laura A. Stammwitz, née Titze, focuses her practice on European and German competition law. She advises national and international clients on a wide array of competition law issues, with an emphasis on merger control proceedings (including the coordination of multijurisdictional filings) as well as cartel and abuse of dominance investigations before the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission. Dr. Stammwitz’ experience extends to counseling clients in a variety of industries including chemicals, financial services and the food retail sector.

Prior to joining Dechert, Dr. Stammwitz worked as a research assistant and a trainee lawyer for two international law firms where she focused on antitrust, litigation and European corporate law. She regularly publishes on competition law topics and has completed her PhD thesis on jurisdictional aspects of follow-on cartel damages claims.


Merger Experience
Dr. Stammwitz has handled numerous German, EU and multijurisdictional merger control proceedings, including

  • various acquisitions by Tönnies (and zur Mühlen Group) in the food sector
  • several private equity funds on intended and completed transactions including acquisitions and exits in industries such as chemicals, healthcare, fashion, food services and the furniture sector
  • Tech Mahindra’s acquisition of Lightbridge Communications Corporation

Behavioural Experience
Her cartel defense and litigation experience includes advising and/or representing

  • US-based company in investigation by Federal Cartel Office (metal packaging cartel) 
  • US-based company in investigation by European Commission (metal packaging cartel)
  • Huhtamaki in its appeal before the General Court  (flexible packaging cartel)
