The American Lawyer Recognizes Kate Unger Davis as “Young Lawyer of the Year”

November 04, 2020

Dechert LLP’s Philadelphia-based associate Kate Unger Davis has been named a “Young Lawyer of the Year” by The American Lawyer in its Industry Awards 2020. She is one of just five lawyers named to the national list.

Ms. Unger Davis, who graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, completed Third Circuit and Eastern District of Pennsylvania clerkships before joining Dechert. She now defends life sciences businesses against an array of product liability challenges.

Ms. Unger Davis leads a team of three national firms in defending a medical device manufacturer against thousands of hernia mesh claims in a multi-district litigation. For Bayer, she served as part of the on-site trial team that won three straight jury trials involving allegations of excessive bleeding from Xarelto. For another pharmaceuticals manufacturer, she devised a new legal strategy that succeeded in having the plaintiff’s key medical expert excluded mid-trial, triggering a verdict for the defense.

Ms. Unger Davis maintains an active appellate practice. In addition to representing life sciences clients in more than a dozen appeals, she oversees Penn Law Appellate Advocacy Clinic students in appeals for pro bono clients.

The American Lawyer published its “Young Lawyers of the Year” list on November 2. Winners in all categories of the 2020 Industry Awards will be formally recognized in a virtual ceremony on January 14, 2021.
