Danielle M. Paglia, Ph.D. focuses her practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the pharmaceutical and biotech space, specializing in the area of small molecule pharmaceuticals. Her experience includes preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications for growing start-ups as well as large pharma companies with complex patent portfolios; freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses; IP due diligence analyses in connection with in-licensing and acquisition opportunities; and pre-litigation analyses in anticipation of ANDA litigation.
Dr. Paglia routinely advises clients on patent strategy across a range of chemical technologies, including novel and repurposed small molecules, heterobifunctional molecules, polymorphs, salt/co-crystal forms, drug formulations, drug delivery systems, methods of treating disease including clinical stage patient population and dosing regimens, and methods of manufacturing, among others.
Dr. Paglia obtained her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she worked on the synthesis of novel coenzyme Q10 analogs, prodrugs designed to cross the blood-brain barrier, the development of microwave-accelerated cross-couplings using heterogeneous catalysis and the design of a novel heterogeneous bimetallic catalyst for use in conventional and microwave accelerated cross-coupling and tandem reactions. Prior to receiving her Ph.D., Dr. Paglia worked on the synthesis of water-soluble ligand scaffolds at the College of the Holy Cross where she completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry.
Dr. Paglia was recognized as “One to Watch” by The Best Lawyers in America 2025 for Intellectual Property Law.
Prior to joining Dechert, Dr. Paglia worked as a patent agent and patent attorney in the intellectual property group at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP where she assisted in the preparation of patent applications, patentability analyses, prior art searches and due diligence analyses within the life sciences.
