Bert L. Wolff is a partner in Dechert’s Mass Torts & Product Liability practice group and focuses his practice on complex product liability, toxic tort litigation, mass tort litigation, insurance coverage litigation and arbitration. Mr. Wolff assists clients from numerous industries, including pharmaceutical, industrial, automotive, and consumer products. He appears at all levels of pre-trial, trial and appellate proceedings in state and federal courts across the United States.

Leveraging two decades of experience as national counsel for American Sterilizer Company and Steris Corporation in their ethylene oxide product liability litigation, Mr. Wolff insightfully assists clients with managing, coordinating, and developing the defense of toxic tort actions. Mr. Wolff’s practice also includes international arbitration, in which he has experience representing pharmaceutical clients in matters concerning coverage disputes involving Bermuda Form insurance policies. He has been ranked as a “Top Attorney” in the New York metro area by Super Lawyers and was named to the list of Who’s Who Legal for Product Liability Defence every year since 2019.

Mr. Wolff is a member of the Editorial Committee of the product liability and mass torts group’s newsletter, Dechert Re:Torts.

Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Wolff was an of counsel at Quinn, Emanuel, Urquhart & Sullivan.

    • Obtained summary judgments for a major pharmaceutical company following the exclusion of the plaintiffs’ expert causation evidence in federal multidistrict litigations and affirmances by the federal courts of appeals.
    • Obtained summary judgment for American Sterilizer Company following the exclusion of plaintiff's expert causation evidence in federal district court and affirmance in the Fifth Circuit.
    • Obtained summary judgment for American Sterilizer Company following the exclusion of plaintiff's expert causation evidence in Michigan state court and affirmance in the Michigan appellate courts.
    • Obtained summary judgment for American Sterilizer Company following the exclusion of plaintiffs' expert evidence in Illinois state court and dismissal of the appeals in the Illinois appellate courts.
    • Obtained summary judgment for Honeywell Inc. following the exclusion of plaintiff's expert causation evidence in Illinois state court and affirmance in the Illinois appellate court.
    • Obtained dismissal of RICO class action claims for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in federal district court.
    • Managed nationwide defense of Interneuron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in various class actions, consolidated mass tort proceedings, and federal multidistrict litigation in the diet drugs products liability litigation.
    • Involved in the representation of an international pharmaceutical manufacturer in matters arising out of the contamination and withdrawal of influenza vaccine.
    • Represented a leading global manufacturer of protective packaging products in the nationwide defense of fraudulent transfer and successor liability claims concerning asbestos and defended a manufacturer of asbestos containing materials in various property damage actions.
    • Managed the national coordination of automotive rollover litigation involving postal delivery vehicles.
