Dechert LLP has been honored as Global Trade & Customs Compliance Law Firm of the Year in the Women in Compliance Awards 2017, run by business intelligence organization C5. The honor reflects the achievements of the firm’s international trade and government regulation team, which is co-led by London-based partner Miriam Gonzalez Durantez.
Gonzalez, who also co-chairs the firm’s Global Women’s Initiative, has staked out a highly visible position over the past year at the helm of Dechert’s market-leading Brexit initiative. Building on existing strengths in Dechert’s international trade group, she assembled a 15-partner Brexit team as well as recruiting former officials and advisors from the UK Prime Minister’s Office, HM Treasury, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Bank of England. As a result, Dechert was able to deploy more practical experience in compliance—from both the UK and EU perspectives—than most rivals.

The judges, who focused on teams led by women or in which women contributed significantly to their overall success, praised Dechert’s outstanding approach to Brexit and to other global trade and customs issues.
In the same contest, the firm’s Paris-based antitrust team, led by partner Mélanie Thill-Tayara, was also shortlisted for “Anti-Trust Investigation Team of the Year” award. Thill-Tayara, who leverages a wealth of experience gathered at the European Commission’s Directorate-General Competition and from 25 years in private practice, has represented leading companies in significant merger control matters and behavioral investigations since joining Dechert in February 2016.
Winners were announced at an awards ceremony on March 30 at Grosvenor House in London.
