Dechert’s newest affinity group, the Greater Middle Eastern Alliance (GMEA), welcomes and brings together everyone in the Dechert community who wishes to identify with, is affiliated to, or has an interest in the region.
In 2024, the Greater Middle Eastern Alliance hosted an evening with Yacine Boulares and Zafer Tawil, two extraordinary musicians whose talents transcended cultural boundaries. Yacine, a French Tunisian master saxophonist and composer, seamlessly blended jazz with North African rhythms, while Zafer, a virtuoso on the oud and violin, brought the rich traditions of Middle Eastern music to life. This unique performance transported the audience through a rich tapestry of sounds, merging the timeless beauty of traditional instruments with contemporary jazz influences.
Last year, the group brought levity to the firm by hosting a memorable “Evening of Laughter” featuring Nataly Aukar, Lebanese-born writer, performer and stand-up comic. GMEA also collaborated with the Pro Bono Committee to welcome Sara Hussain, Head of the UN Human Rights Council. Sara addressed the audience on the importance of public service and providing resources to those in need.
