LONDON, 10th October, 2018 – Global law firm Dechert LLP has introduced Mental Health Champions and Mental Health First Aiders into its London office, adding to its suite of wellbeing-focused initiatives to support its people.

Seven employees have undergone accredited mental health training with St John’s Ambulance, to enable them to provide support to colleagues who may be struggling with mental health issues. Akin to physical health first aiders, these individuals will provide another source of help, in addition to HR and their line manager.

The champions will provide information and support, and through quarterly meetings with senior management will communicate feedback and ideas to continually improve the support provided and the wellbeing of employees. The firm intends to train further individuals, as the London office grows.

This is the latest in a series of mental health initiatives piloted by the firm to enhance employee wellbeing. Other initiatives include ‘Meditation Mondays’, a programme of weekly guided meditation, plus a free meditation app; education sessions on nutrition for positive mental health and the importance of physical activity; and an employee assistance programme comprising confidential face-to-face counselling sessions, a free advice phone line, and an online platform providing cognitive behavioural therapy.

Caroline Bowes, Director EMEA Human Resources at Dechert says “All of our programmes – whether aimed at physical, financial or mental wellbeing – are designed to engage, educate and provide the best possible support to our people.”

Dechert has a 4.9 out of 5 star rating on Glassdoor, an anonymous employee feedback website, where 94% of employees would recommend the firm to a friend.
