Financial Times Recognizes Dechert Once Again for Innovation in Europe

October 15, 2021

Dechert LLP has been recognized by the Financial Times once again for innovation and included among the Top 30 firms in this year’s Innovative Lawyers Awards for Europe.

Dechert is consistently ranked among the most innovative law firms in the world by the Financial Times. This year, firms were assessed on innovation in the practice of law, on their willingness to embrace new technology, and on their response to critical trends in the legal profession.

In this year’s FT report, Dechert was recognized in the following categories:

“Innovation in Dispute Resolution” – for securing a landmark decision in the English Court of Appeal that impedes the practice of “judgment laundering” and settles a novel and previously undecided point of law. The Dechert team was led by London-based litigation partner Andrew Hearn and included associate Suzi Cocksedge.

“Innovation in Sustainability & ESG” – for achieving change in competition law to accommodate fair trade and sustainability initiatives. Working pro bono on behalf of the Fair Trade Advocacy Office, a Brussels-based team led by antitrust partner Alec Burnside and including associates Marjolein De Backer and Delphine Strohl helped convince European antitrust agencies to adopt new guidelines to help businesses collaborate on sustainability initiatives.

The team’s success in securing changes to European competition law was also highlighted by the Financial Times in its editorial analysis of legal innovations relating to ESG issues.

In addition, the firm’s digital maturity was evidenced as Dechert was ranked in the Top 20 in Europe for its willingness to embrace the power of data and new technology.

Lawyers and law firms recognized by the FT were honored in an online ceremony on October 14.
