IFLR Honors Dechert Philippine Deal as “Equity Deal of the Year” in Asia-Pacific Awards

March 25, 2021

A Dechert corporate team was honored when the International Financial Law Review recognized the US$253 million initial public offering and listing of Philippine real estate investment trust AREIT, Inc. as “Equity Deal of the Year” at the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards 2021.

Dechert acted as Special Counsel to AREIT Inc. in a transaction that comprised the first REIT listing in the Philippines. Dechert partner Maria Pedersen and associate Andrew Singer helped structure and prepare the Offering Documentation for listing and performed a number of key associated roles throughout the transaction.

IFLR also named a second Dechert matter – the Manila Water Company’s debut international bond – as finalist for “Debt Deal of the Year”. Dechert acted as international issuer’s counsel to the Manila Water Company, which provides water and wastewater services to more than six million people in the Philippine capital, on the US$500 million issuance. The offering was the first ASEAN sustainability bond by a Philippine corporate issuer and the largest green, social or sustainability bond issued by a listed private water utility in Asia.

Singapore-based partner Maria Pedersen again led the Dechert team alongside London-based partner Patrick Lyons, with associates Andrew Singer in Hong Kong and Nick Quarrie and Amy Rees in London.

Winners in all categories of the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards were announced in an online ceremony on March 25.
