Hong Kong Law Society Honors Dechert with Distinguished Pro Bono Award

Dechert LLP’s Hong Kong office was recognized by the Law Society of Hong Kong at its 2022 Pro Bono and Community Service Awards Ceremony for the firm’s outstanding commitment to pro bono services.
Dechert was one of only two firms to be awarded the Distinguished Pro Bono Law Firm Award. Dechert was also awarded the Gold Law Firm Award, and many of the office’s lawyers received individual gold, silver and bronze awards which reflect the number of pro bono hours they have worked this year.
The Distinguished Pro Bono Law Firm Award recognizes law firms that have made an outstanding contribution to pro bono services and is selected by a committee based on the volume and diversity of the pro bono work, demonstrable dedication to pro bono, and innovation in the delivery of the program. Dechert’s pro bono clients in Hong Kong include, among others, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Festyle, a social enterprise supporting women’s economic empowerment and RainLily, a clinic supporting survivors of sexual violence.
During the reporting period, 25 Dechert lawyers performed nearly 1,790 hours of pro bono work, an average of 71.6 hours per lawyer. During these hours, the lawyers covered 33 different matters supporting individuals, NGOs and social enterprises across a wide range of needs.
The pro bono work in the Hong Kong office is led by associate and registered foreign lawyer Drew Singer and associate Amanda Liu, who each sit on Dechert’s global pro bono committee. They have both worked hard to promote pro bono and new projects within the Hong Kong office, particularly supporting the launch of multiple new projects to assist refugees in Hong Kong.

To that end, we have recently expanded our pro bono partnerships to take on multiple new refugee projects.”
