Law360 Names Two Dechert Partners as 2022 Rising Stars

May 31, 2022

Dechert LLP partners Kenneth Hackman and Jonathan Tam have been recognized by Law360 in its Rising Stars list for 2022.

Each year, the publication names those it judges to be the world’s top legal talent under the age of 40. This year, Law360’s editors reviewed more than 1,350 submissions across 36 legal practice areas in their search for lawyers whose legal accomplishments belie their age.

Mr. Hackman, a partner in Dechert’s global finance practice, has been a chief driver of the development of the single-family rental (SFR) space. Recognized by The Legal 500 US as a “Next Generation Lawyer” for real estate finance, he has represented Dechert clients on a broad range of SFR finance transactions notable for their novelty and complexity.

Mr. Hackman also advises on repurchase facilities and warehouse facilities secured by commercial mortgage loans; on the origination, acquisition and disposition of complex mortgage loans and mezzanine financings; and the modification, workout and restructuring of complex distressed-debt structures. He represents a number of investment banks, commercial banks, life insurance companies, institutional investors, specialty finance companies, REITs and private equity funds.

Jonathan Tam, a partner in Dechert’s product liability and mass torts practice, has represented major pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies and consumer electronic companies, and other innovative products manufacturers in some of the most complex and high-stakes mass tort product liability litigations, multi-district litigations (MDLs), consumer fraud actions and class actions in the United States, including cases filed by State Attorneys General.

Mr. Tam has led, managed, and handled various aspects of complex, nationwide litigations in state and federal courts, including serving as trial and appellate counsel. In particular, he has extensive experience litigating the admissibility of expert testimony. His work has led to the dismissal of plaintiffs’ general causation testimony, which resulted in summary judgment in favor of his clients in a number of high-stakes mass tort litigations.
