National Legal Aid & Defender Association Honors Dechert’s Pro Bono Achievements

June 10, 2022

Dechert LLP has been honored by the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) in its Beacon of Justice Awards 2022, which were established to recognize law firms for extraordinary pro bono achievements.

This year, the NLADA highlighted those firms that have worked to address racial inequities within their communities or at a national level, with a particular emphasis on the sustainability of pro bono strategies aimed at addressing racial inequity.

Dechert’s commitment to pro bono is widely seen as setting the standard for international law firms. Globally, the firm’s lawyers performed nearly 90,000 pro bono hours in 2021, equivalent to 5% of total billable time.

A significant proportion of the firm’s efforts last year were aimed at issues surrounding racial justice. Members of the Dechert community built on past successes to bring about real change by achieving positive resolutions in fighting police misconduct, counteracting the effects of overly restrictive and discriminatory voting laws, representing underserved clients on issues advancing equity, and advocating for prisoners and detainees most vulnerable to Covid-19.

This year’s Beacon of Justice awardees were honored by the NLADA at a virtual gala celebration on June 9.
