LatinFinance Recognizes Avianca Chapter 11 Case as Restructuring Deal of the Year

A Dechert LLP matter - the Chapter 11 restructuring of Latin American airline Avianca - has been recognized by LatinFinance as “Restructuring of the Year” in the publication’s 2022 Deals of the Year Awards, set up to recognize standout transactions and institutions in the capital markets of Latin America and the Caribbean.
A Dechert team led by Allan Brilliant, co-chair of the firm’s financial restructuring practice, advised U.S. hedge fund Citadel Advisors LLC in connection with Avianca’s out-of-court restructuring and subsequent Chapter 11 cases.
The LatinFinance awards were based on achievements falling within the timeframe of October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022. Avianca emerged from Chapter 11 on December 1, 2021.
The Avianca matter was previously recognized by Latin Lawyer as its “Restructuring Deal of the Year”, with the publication citing its novelty, complexity and impact, in addition to the significance of the legal work involved. It was also named finalist for “Restructuring Deal of the Year” by the International Financial Law Review at the IFLR Americas Awards 2022.
