National Legal Aid & Defender Association Honors Dechert for Pro Bono Commitment

April 19, 2024

Dechert LLP has again been recognized for its outstanding pro bono efforts by The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) in its Beacon of Justice Awards 2024, which were established to recognize law firms for extraordinary pro bono achievements.

This year, the NLADA highlighted firms for their commitment to addressing issues related to civil and human rights, particularly those relating to low-income and vulnerable individuals, families, and communities.

Dechert remains committed to pro bono work and advancing equity and justice for all. At any given time, the firm has 1,700+ active pro bono matters ongoing, including 750 new matters.

A significant proportion of these efforts are focused on issues surrounding civil and human rights.

Examples include Dechert’s partnership with Washington, D.C.-based human rights organization Freedom Now through which Dechert teams take on individual prisoners of conscience around the world as pro bono clients, conducting legal, political and public relations advocacy campaigns to gain their release.

This year, Dechert lawyers have also helped the Center for Reproductive Rights develop legal strategies for expanding sexual and reproductive health rights in Latin America and the Caribbean, and additionally achieved positive resolutions in relation to reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and voting rights issues.
